Cork is sustainably harvested from the Oak tree in the Montado every few years and processed into a fabric using a chemical-free procedure such as steam.

The strictly regulated cork harvest, done by hand, is the livelihood of many families in the Montado and the trees are protected (It is illegal to cut Oak trees). The ecological value of the cork forests are important, sheltering half of the amphibian and reptilian population of Portugal and many other species.

We believe it is a sustainable alternative to other common material such as chemical processed leather or plastic.
